Reflecting back over the past 2 and a half years, looking at the journey we’ve been on from Ezra/Nehemiah to LFJT to cultivating an appetite for the things of God, it thrilled me to think of all God has been wanting to show and teach us. How timely some of the passages we looked at. How beautiful to see themes jump out convicting us of God’s leading. Yet rather than quickly moving on to what may be next I wonder if to complete this part of the journey a reminder and celebration of the gift and work of God’s Holy Spirit is necessary. This for two reasons: it’s been noted how often the Holy Spirit made an appearance especially in Luke/Acts and 1Corinthians and yet we haven’t taken proper time to look at the third person of the Trinity in more detail and give him the attention he deserves. Secondly, as was our desire with the ‘Cultivate’ series, we don’t want to see people apply all that we’ve learned in their own strength. This would either lead to legalism or spiritual burn out. In all we’ve looked at from mission to holiness God’s Spirit in us is the key. We can’t live the way of God without the Spirit in us. Hence this short series, to learn and take steps to live by the Spirit of Jesus Christ. As Paul understands himself, we are called to work out our salvation and yet it’s only possible through God who gives us the will and strength to do so (Phil 2:12-13).
