The popular holiday destination of Crete was a place that the Apostle Paul was deeply concerned for. Located in heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Crete’s harbours were well placed to service cities all over the region. Paul perhaps had a vision of how strategically important the island could be in the spread of the gospel.
However there was much that needed to be sorted in the lives of the people and in the new churches. Therefore, Paul sent his travel companion and trusted mentee, Titus, to the island to show them a better way of living and to restore order to a number of house churches that were being deceived by the local leaders.
To do this Paul asks Titus to proclaim the gospel, and to encourage the church to live Godly lives in the light of the gospel among a people whose lives were far from God. Surely this is a relevant letter for the church today to receive.
