Abstract/Summary:
When you learn a new language, you learn words and their opposites. In the Bible, we are presented with sharp contrasts, such as light and darkness and good and evil. When Jesus was speaking with Nicodemus, he made it clear that he was on a mission to save. Since he came to save, obviously he did not come to condemn (John 3.17). When Paul writes to a young church in Rome, he reiterates this point forcefully. If your trust is in Jesus (Romans 8.1), there is no possibility of condemnation. No matter what their circumstances were and no matter what our circumstances are, we have unconditional security in Jesus. D. L. Moody (1837–1899) put it well, “A rule I have had for years is: to treat the Lord Jesus Christ as a personal friend. His is not a creed, a mere doctrine, but it is He Himself we have.”
